Support for our small business community is crucial to creating employment opportunities for residents and revenue for important city services. Being smarter about development has the ability, not only to, continue our growth as a city but also to better distribute the rewards of our economic success.   I will rely on my experience as a compliance officer for the Department Small and Local Business Development to ensure that development projects delivery the promised benefits for the city.

As an ANC Commissioner I helped get the Main Street designation for the 14th Street Corridor and secured funding for the 14th Street Clean Team.  Small businesses are the lifeblood of our neighborhoods; they add vibrancy, convenience, safety and promote neighborhood cohesion.

  • Advocate and increase support for small businesses in the ward. Provide small business owners a tax credit to offset the property taxes they pay to commercial properties owners.
  • Support increased funding to expand programs like the “Great Streets” programs which offers grants to assist small business owners to make improvements to their establishments.
  • Convene a summit of small business owners in Ward 2 to identify barriers to success.
  • Identify funding for workforce development programs that assist marginalized and underserved communities.
