Small businesses are the lifeblood of our neighborhoods. A crucial source of employment for residents and revenue for city services, they also add vibrancy, convenience, safety and promote neighborhood cohesion.

Being smarter about development not only continues our growth as a city, it better distributes the rewards of our economic success.

I will rely on my experience as a compliance officer for the Department Small and Local Business Development to ensure that development projects deliver on their promised benefits to the city.

As an ANC Commissioner I helped get the Main Street designation for the 14th Street Corridor, and secured funding for the 14th Street Clean Team.

As your Ward 2 Councilmember I will:

  • Advocate for small business owners by providing a tax credit to offset the taxes they pay to commercial property owners.
  • Support increased funding to expand programs such as the Great Streets program, which offers small business owners grants to improvements their establishments.
  • Convene a summit of small business owners in Ward 2 to identify barriers to success.
  • Identify funding for workforce development programs that assist marginalized and underserved communities.
