Support for Small Businesses

I fully support the creation and establishment of small businesses on our streets. They add vibrancy, convenience, safety and promote neighborhood cohesion in addition to offering jobs. Many small and local businesses are leaving our communities because they cannot keep up with the increasing costs of staying open with higher rents, higher percentages of real estate taxes and utility expenses. One way the District government can help small businesses is by allowing them a tax credit for the property taxes they pay to landlords.
